COSP15 Side Event: Assistive Technology - what we know now
This event has now taken place, recordings are availible at the bottom of this screen.
COSP15 digital side event, co-hosted by WHO, UNICEF, ATscale and GDI Hub. Co-sponsored by FCDO. Exploring role of AT and why it matters.
Assistive technology (AT) is a precondition for many people with disabilities to be able to realize their rights. Access to assistive technology enables people to live healthy, productive, and independent lives, and to participate in education, the labour market and community and civil life.
The first-ever Global Report on Assistive Technology, prepared by WHO and UNICEF, was launched on 16 May 2022. It provides the latest population data, a global snapshot of access to assistive technology and covers policy, product and workforce availability, and service delivery.
The Global Report clearly shows the significant unmet and growing need, which is most pressing in low- and middle-income countries. Ten key recommendations in the report highlight the way forward.
Alongside an expert panel this side event will explore the global report recommendations, with a specific focus on inequalities, lack of access for LMICs and what can be done to drive change.
The event is a unique opportunity to hear from report authors and global experts, sharing the evidence behind this momentous report and exploring what we know now about the power of Assistive Technology to change lives.
