Tokyo 2020: Towards and Beyond
The Directors of the GDI Hub were invited to a week-long scoping visit to Japan (2nd - 6th July) to share knowledge and develop partnerships with colleagues working on and associated with Tokyo 2020. The trip was sponsored by and organised with the British Council with help from the British Embassy Japan.
The scoping trip consisted of a number of meetings with British Embassy, the British Council, Tokyo Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (TOCOG), host city representatives, the Cabinet Office, Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) and Professors at the University of Osaka and Keio university.
The focus of the trip was to develop relationships with the 2020 team, to explore opportunities for future knowledge exchange and to develop future academic and cultural projects. To spearhead discussions in these areas our directors delivered talks at a showcase at the British Embassy on the 2ndJuly which covered:
- An overview of the London 2012 Legacy prgogramme (Victoria Austin);
- Details of the inclusicve design approach taken within the Legacy programme (Iain McKinnon);
- The GDI Hub story (Cathy Holloway).
A number of exciting collaborations are now being further developed and GDI Hub looks forward to a new and exciting programme of activities with our colleagues in Japan.
