Shivani Gupta

Shivani Gupta has over 25 years of experience working in the area of disability inclusion. She is passionate about independent living for persons with disabilities in less-resourced settings. Her areas of work include improving physical accessibility by promoting inclusive design and support services for persons with disabilities. She has worked as a consultant with different stakeholders including the government, private companies and organizations of persons with Disabilities, UN agencies to promote inclusion. She is based in India and worked there and in other countries in the Asia Pacific and Africa.

She holds an MSc degree in Inclusive Environments: Design and Management from the University of Reading, UK. She did her PhD at the University of Maastricht, Netherlands. She has co-authored publications pertaining to accessibility in physical environments, public procurement, assistive devices, and support services, especially in the context of less-resourced rural settings. She is also the author of ‘No Looking Back’ a true story inspired by her own life experiences as a woman with disabilities living in India published by Rupa Publications.
